    Tea
I've decided I don't like rooibos teas. The tazo passion is my favorite tea and has it, but it must be very little, because the rooibos tea I have at home I don't like so much. They finally replaced the empty tea spot in the Flavia machine at work, and it is with a rooibos tea, so I tried to, but I don't like this one, either, so I guess it really is the rooibos.

Anyway, I HEART the biggelow green tea with peach. I'm no tea connoseur (and I can't spell either) but a few weeks ago for some reason I really wanted green tea. . with PEACH. Hmm. And I was in the supermarket and there it was, and I have enjoyed every cup since, lol. It smells nice, tastes like tea (i.e. slightly bitter water) and makes me happy.

My efforts to do a more or less minimalist Christmas for the boy have been somewhat thwarted by impulse buys and Amazon filler. We got him one big present and one medium present, but I have been filling out any orders that don't qualify for free shipping with board books, so there are lots of those. Ah, well. One never can have too many books.

We picked up our Christmas goose last night - the idiots at Shaws failed to call like they promised they would, but my plan of checking on Mondays worked out. (Mondays being the typical delivery day for food service.) We bought a tree last night and have been letting it settle. We'll decorate the tree tonight with Rob and anyone else who reads this and would like to drop by and help.

The holiday baking is done and the packages shipped. Jack has been great about taking the boy in the evenings so that I can roll dough and ice gingerbread men. It's been really nice to just put on some carols and rock out some cookies. This is actually the first year I am not totally sick of Chirstmas music - my last year in foodservice the Christmas station was on all day, as the alternatives were the Terrence and Bonnie Karaoke Hour or my boss' Very Venezuelan Christmas CD.

I'm done shopping for nearly everyone - of course the one person I have nothing for is Jack. (Well, I ordered a thing for him, but it will not show up until after Christmas) Hm. Not sure what to do there.

Anyway, I'm starting to feel almost ready for Christmas. :)

Are you snowed in? Are you doing some baking? Perhaps you're starting to get a little stir crazy?. Or perhaps you got out to play in the snow:

Tonight was Fezziwig's Ball, a vintage dance in Salem. Of course, since Snowpocalypse '09 is coming, Salem declared a snow emergency starting at 10pm, so the ball ended a full hour earlier than scheduled so we were not all towed. Then the onramp to 128 south was closed by a cop parked across it. My GPS insisted it was the only onramp in existence; even after I went north one exit it tried to send me back to the closed ramp via surface roads. I was dying of nerves as my GPS is low on battery and I cannot find the power cord, AND my car had 60 miles to go until empty. But everyone made it home, I pumped gas in a ballgown, and the nail I found in my tire this afternoon was fixed free by the dealership. I had a good time at the ball, and now I want a small-gauge curling iron to make pretty civil-war era hairstyles. Not to mention a dress, but I already wanted that. The little sweets handed out at the door leaving the ball were an awesome touch, because it meant I had pretty vintage snacks to eat out of a cute lacy nosegay cup when I was too worried about gas/gps/closed onramps. There was even a masque during the refreshment break! St. George killed a Turkish champion, a prince of Egypt, and Hector in single combat, and in verse. It was silly and fun and (I think) terribly period (that being 19th c, not SCA period). Now, to make a corset (being a requirement for an 1860s gown). I should've bought boning before getting allegedly snowed in (still no flakes here).

    c) Tell you something I like about you.
    d) Tell you a memory I have of you.
    e) Ask you something I've wanted to know about you.

Dell makes lemon computers. They replaced my lemon with a new lemon. I'm really sick of dealing with their garbage technical support with no explanations as to why between this computer and the last ive had the motherboard replaced 6 times, the memory about 4, the io panel twice, the power supply twice (or 3 times?), and the video card.

Two completely different computers. One of them used in two locations.

    It is NOT the memory
It is NOT the power cables to the hard disks
It is NOT power surges breaking the power supply

    IT IS YOUR GARBAGE

I'm building my next computer myself. There is no brand anymore that I will give my money to.

Javascript starting to turn into a serious platform
Interesting article here on Ars Technica:

    http://arstechnica.com/web/news/2009/12/commonjs-effort-sets-javascript-on-path-for-world-domination.ars

Summary: a bunch of projects have been suddenly converging this year, to turn Javascript into a real development platform. The central one of these is the growing CommonJS standard, which seeks to address some of the language’s long-term weaknesses (such as the lack of a proper module system). There are also a bunch of packages out that are moving towards high-quality I/O management and the like. Put together, and the result is a lot of momentum towards the language starting to be used for Real Programming, not just client-side web pages…

I'm pretty sure I've posted about this before, but what would you do if you had enough money to do anything you wanted?
    My answer )
I'd buy the house for sale across the street. I'd rent the current place out to [info]doc_smiley . I'd buy as many of the houses in my neighborhood as they need me to buy and rent or resell them. I'd take a year and learn how to invest. Then I'd start a cycle where every year I spend 1/3 of it going back to school, 1/3 traveling, and 1/3 going to SCA events. The balance would vary from year to year, and some of the travel would be mixed in with SCA events, and some of the going to school would be mixed in with SCA events. Whether I spent fall or spring semester going to school would depend on the courses I want to take and when they are offered. I would spend as much time tutoring for charity during the semesters I'm going to school as I can fit in.

I'd want to take classes in statistics, combinatorics, modern physics, organic chemistry, history, painting, sculpture, and art history. Oh, and genetics.

I'd have a rocking wedding, and I'd fly in as many of my out of town friends and relatives as wanted to attend and pay for hotel rooms for them. I'd fly my nieces and nephew and younger cousins to come visit (and their parents, if their parents won't let them come visit alone) and haul them all over Boston to all the historical sites as well as to fun places for kids.

    Issues Exist
I have a lot of stuff. Clothes. Books. Craft supplies. SCA whatnots. And the worst category, Things which I don't currently need but which I keep because I don't want to have to buy them if I need them later (a bajillion pieces of luggage, an extra sewing box, 3 million Corningwares, extra glassware, whatever the hell is on all those basement shelves). This creates storage issues, as my storage space is 1 hall closet, 1 damp basement, and 1 spare room we'd like to use for music or even crafting. I'm going a little insane right now, because I have left things all over the house for lack of a place to store them. Two large boxes of craft books are on the dining room table and have been for weeks. The spare room is and has been a near-unmitigated disaster. I just realized that I have no idea what all the stuff on the basement shelves even is.

It all makes me want to launch into a giant ill-considered tidy Right Now. But if I just pull out everything and then start putting it back in order, I *know* I will not finish. But the problems are large enough that I really cannot find a good small to medium project to at least start- the whole system needs an overhaul. Gah. Maybe I should just find a damn place for those damn craft books, and clean my kitchen. That should help.
